Photography in Cambodia is a treasure trove of more than 340 photographs sourced from international archives, libraries, galleries, and unseen private collections. The photographs and accompanying texts give a fresh perspective on Cambodia’s emergence into its uneasy twenty-first-century peace.

History
of Laos

Never have so many historical photographs been collected in one book about Laos. Like the country, the images are intriguing, captivating,
and beautiful. It is a photographic
social history of over 150 years of the country, from colony to independence, from war to creativity.

Nicholas Coffill

Nicholas Coffill previously compiled the
acclaimed book, Photography in Cambodia:1866 to the Present, published by Tuttle in 2022. In 2016, with creative partner Jon de Rule, he developed the Cambodian-themed Live Media Theatre shows Temples De-Coded and the photo-centric SNAP! 150 Years of Photography in Cambodia.
A graduate of theatre design from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Coffill worked in the 1980s as an exhibition designer on the Powerhouse Museum, the 1988 Bicentennial Traveling Exhibition, the Newcastle Museum, and the Earth Exchange in Sydney.

In 1992, he moved to Asia, working on design projects in Malaysia, then Singapore. From 1998 to 2015, Coffill was a consultant museum planner, working on projects in Toronto, London, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Ipoh, Beijing, and Shanghai.
